The basic working principle of Ecoaims optical biathlon rifles:
Petri Matikainen, CEO of Ecoaims Oy was on-site to hear and see the very first optical biathlon races in Nove Mesto. He send his on-site greetings:
“The event in Nove Mesto was a great success, bringing together around 570 participants, ranging from 10-year-olds to competitors over 81 years old. The competition included both standing and prone shooting, with younger categories (U10 and U13) shooting exclusively from a prone position. The atmosphere was much more relaxed than traditional biathlon events, with participants from all age groups, including families.
The competition was held at the Nove Mesto arena, the same venue that will host the IBU World Cup on March 6–9, 2025. The organizing team was highly professional, with many of the same volunteers who work at the World Cup.
A notable difference from standard biathlon was that athletes used rifle supports, making shooting more accessible. The introduction of electronic shooting was well received, allowing younger participants to engage in the sport earlier than before. Safety was another key advantage, as athletes could practice shooting more frequently compared to traditional live ammunition.”
