“In the early 2000s, the International Paralympic Committee faced a problem: there were no reliable systems for Para visually impaired biathlon. The spark between Ecoaims and the project formed when the Salt Lake City Paralympic Committee approached Ecoaims with the problem. The project was under time pressure; the system had to be developed, tested, and delivered on a tight schedule for the 2001 pre-games.
The basic idea for developing the technology came from a collaboration between Ecoaims and the Finnish Defense Forces. It turned out that with further development the basic technology developed for the defense forces could also be utilized for this purpose.
An intensive development project was carried out in cooperation with the International Paralympic Committee, previously unresolved questions were started to be solved within a six-month deadline. A new system had now been developed for Para biathlon, which enabled reliable results to be obtained in the most challenging conditions.
The camera technology developed by Ecoaims enables interference-free use in demanding outdoor conditions, which is essential in competition environments.
Today, the cooperation between Ecoaims and the IBU, which has taken over para-biathlon, continues strong. Ecoaims is part of the IBU’s development forum for para biathlon together with IBU’s personnel, athletes, coaches, referees, and other stakeholders.”
